From the lavish scenes of Bollywood to the rich spectrum of their cuisine, no other country in the world celebrates colours like India.

So it's no surprise that spring is being greeted with a festival celebrating just that - colour.

The Lathmar Holi was being celebrated in villages across India today, as thousands of men and women showered themselves in brilliantly coloured powders and millions of flower petals.

The legend behind the festival claims that it is closely associated with Lord Krishna and his principle consort and childhood friend, Radha. Men in traditional dress take on the role of gops (friends of Krishna), while women play gopis (friends of Radha).

The men throw the coloured powders and flowers on the women, who fight back by pretending to beat them with bamboo.

It is claimed that the Hindu deity Krishna, who was dark in colour, was jealous of the fair-coloured Radha. He pestered his foster mother Yasodha about it so much that, fed up, she told him he could change Radha's skin by sprinkling her with colours.

Krishna and his shepherd friends visited Radha and her cowherd girls on this day and teased her by throwing colours at her. She and the girls responded by chasing them away with the sticks, or lathis.

The bamboo sticks are said to be an expression of Radha's love - she and the cowherd girls are angry that Krishna and his friends do not live with them all the time.

Burtynsky has always been interested in man-made changes in the landscape and territory, especially those to do with the development of industries. There is something philosophical about all this. According to him, the main stages in human evolution are measured by the use and exploration of the Earth's resources by humans: the Stone Age, Metal, Coal, Oil, etc. In his work, he tries to capture, in details and contrasts, the dialectics of a human being, who, in the search of a more comfortable environment, quickly consumes and destroys it. These images of contradiction are understood by the artist as a metaphor for modern times. His recent reportage about manufacturing in China is an example of this point of view.

Perhaps we all knew - or, at least, imagined - that it would be this way. However, the photographer's pictures reveal not only the detail, but also the extent of the reality of industrial and semi-industrial production in China. This production currently occupies an ever-growing part of the world's market: 70% of Christmas decorations, 29% of television sets, 75% of toys and probably almost 100% of t-shirts are produced in China, by millions of Chinese workers.

Each worker is, in a way, a cog in this huge, well-oiled production machine. This human network is spread over a vast territory, like a uniform backdrop. The patterns are repeated to exhaustion, in an orderly, sickly way. There is no exception to this rule in cities, houses, streets, provinces. Even the colours have become a standardised. Burtynsky's photos reveal that, but aren't devoid of beauty. They are reminiscent of some of Pollock's paintings. And here, gesture is everything.

Oktoberfest is one of the most famous festivals in the world.
And if we talk about beer festivals, it is the world’s largest one.
The Munich Oktoberfest, traditionally, takes place during the sixteen days up to and including the first Sunday in October.
This year, the Munich Oktoberfest will take place from September 19 to October 4. More than six million people are awaited to attend the event.
The festival will last for about 2 weeks, so I think this is not the last picture collection from this fun event.

The main idea of the club is to dress up in your old school uniform – or, if that was as hideous as mine was or no longer fits, an approximation to the stereotypical school uniform. Most people came in white shirts, stripy ties, and black or grey skirts or trousers – some of the more inventive had unearthed little caps, straw boaters, blazers, cricket jumpers, mortarboards (they came as teachers) and scouts’ uniforms, and a few enterprising boys came in drag. The more unusual you look the more attention you get, so dress up or down depending on whether you want to get chatted up all night or just spend a fun evening dancing with friends.
The DJ started off on eighties classics – Wake Me Up Before You Go-go and Take on Me were played one after the other, followed swiftly by assorted Madonna hits, Come on Eileen and other staples of eighties compilation tapes. A birthday gave the excuse to launch into Celebrate, which kicked off a series of seventies songs. Even if you weren’t around when they first came out (or hadn’t yet graduated onto pop music) it would be unusual not to know most of the songs – they’re the sort of cheesy anthems familiar from pubs, school/university discos, and hired DJs.
The clientele – as I mentioned, young, attractive and flirty. The men are better looking than average, something we noticed with delight as soon as we arrived. Most people are well under thirty, with most between 20 and 26 (although there were a couple of seventeen year olds about). For some reason there are slightly more public school types than there are in the average nightclub (or perhaps you just notice it more because everyone’s wearing their old uniform). Everyone is very friendly and down-to-earth. It’s hard to be either pretentious or aggressive while dressed in school uniform, which ensures a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
Any criticisms? Unless you buy tickets over the web in advance, you usually have to queue for at least an hour and a half before getting in – the night I went it was snowing. The club is also packed (and it always fills up to its maximum capacity), making it quite difficult to move without bumping into someone else. The venue isn’t brilliantly maintained, and is a bit grubby – mostly this adds to the ramshackle ’school disco’ charm, but it was quite annoying that there wasn’t any loo paper in the girls’ loos, even at the beginning of the evening.
It’s almost impossible to avoid pulling at schooldisco – almost everyone is young,reasonably good-looking and amazingly flirtatious. The school uniform thing probably helps as well, not least because it dissolves inhibitions – when you already look absurdly like an extra from Grange Hill or a Soho sex show, there seems very little point in preserving your dignity. That said, it’s also great for a night out with friends – the eighties and seventies hits make everyone feel warm and nostalgic (unless they’re incredibly cool and contemptuous towards anything that could be considered cheesy).

Russia's prisons have a reputation for being the most overcrowded on earth, especially Kresty Prison in St. Petersburg. The official capacity is set at 3,000, but the actual population is always at least 10,000. Each prisoner is also said to only be allowed 4 square meters of space each and 15 minutes a week (a week!) to shower. In summer 2006 Vladimir Putin announced that the prison would be relocated to a new facility in the Kolpinsky District on the outskirts of SaintPetersburg . After the relocation is complete the Kresty building will be sold at auction. It is anticipated that the prison building will be transferred into a hotel-entertainment complex.

A lot of people assume that Japan has the world's most crowded trains. Apparently that's not the case. On a episode of a Japanese TV show, “Itte Q,” a reporter was sent to India so she could experience what may be the “world's most crowded train”. They wanted to see if she could read a newspaper on the train, but it proved extremely difficult.

Money comes from Adsense and Self Products how to be successful. But can he give you advise about a great hairdresser? I don’t think so. Okay, he’s not making a million dollars a year, but the following guy is…. Recognise this guy? One tip: he is not a famous hairdresser

Talking about a hairdresser gone mad: the owner of this blog has become almost a celebrity himself. His real name is Mario Lavandeira and began blogging about famous people in 2004. His hard work paid off quit well with a monthly income of $ 110,000 and a year income of more than 1,3 million dollars. With that kind of income you don’t need a bank, you’re the bank your self. But in stead of buying a sailboat and going off to a tropic island he keeps on working on his blog at a daily base. Income source is from advertisement: a banner ad will gonna cost you $13,000 That isn’t much, is it?

This blogger began in 2003 and writes about all kinds of subjects that relates to the great city of New York. I think if you live there you don’t need to go on holiday if you would believe his blog. Makes about $600,000 a year Okay, it’s not a million a year, but he’s on his way in getting to that status.

They don’t have anything special about them, except that most of them look tired but the advantages are great: lots of money and easy work which can be done anywhere in the world, you only need a computer or notebook and a internet connection. They have that even on the remotest sunny islands! And you are your own boss, making money from your own home. Or hotel. Or yacht! And what’s great about having your own successful blog on the net is you can work on it everywhere in the world.

Niccolo Paganini

Niccolo Paganini was a musician in the late 1700s. He was handed the mandolin at an early age and at the tender age of seven, he was learning the violin. By the age of eleven, he was performing solos and by the age of thirteen, he was known as a violin virtuoso. At the age of nineteen, he was beginning to compose his own music and learning how to play the guitar. At the age of 23, he composed the hardest work for a violinist to play and at the age of 27, he was touring and mesmerizing audiences. He had lost is bottom teeth, looked pale and began dressing in black. It was rumored that he had sold his soul to the devil. Although he didn’t start the rumor, he did nothing to thwart the rumor and in fact encouraged people to believe it. When he was asked about it, he asked them how else would it be possible for him to play the way he does?

Robert Johnson

Robert Johnson was a blues musician that had a short lived life. He passed away at the age of 27 and not much is really known about his life. His music influenced some of the musicians of the 50s and 60s. He was one of the first musicians inducted into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame. He was living on the plantation when his desire to become a great blues musician came about. Someone told him to take his guitar to the Crossroads at midnight near Dockery Plantation. When he arrived, the devil was waiting and took his guitar from him. The devil tuned the guitar and played a few songs on it. Once he handed it back to Robert, the pact was made and he was able to sing, play and create the blues.

Johann Georg Faust

Johann Georg Faust was a German alchemist. In 1507, it was said that he was a con man and a drifter that would prey on the gullible. He was said to have molested several boys in Kreuznach. In 1509, he obtained a degree in divinity. At the University of Krakow, he studied magic and befriended Martin Luther and Philip Melachton. These two men were said to have witnessed Johann’s pact with the devil. He worked at the University of Ehrfut, where it was said that he was lecturing on Homer and conjured up his heroes for the students. He was soon asked to resign and offered repentance. It was then that he admitted to having the pact with the devil. He told Dr. Klinge, a Franciscan monk, that he trusted the devil more than he did God.

Urbain Grandier

Urbain Grandier was a French Catholic priest. He was burned at the stake for committing the crime of witchcraft. He was known for breaking his vow of celibacy and becoming a philanderer. In 1603, a few nuns accused him of bewitching them and sending a demon to commit unspeakable acts with them. According to the legend, his pact stated his allegiance to the devil and is renunciation of the Christian faith. In turn, it was promise to Grandier that he would have the love of women, wealth, and worldly honor. This pact was written backwards and in Latin and it is still available to be seen at Bibliotheque Nationale in France.

Jonathan Moulton

Jonathan Moulton was a cabinet maker that became a captain in the New Hampshire Militia in 1745. He played an important role in the claiming of the land from the Ossipee Native Americans. When the war ended in 1749, he got married to Abigail Smith and they had eleven children. He opened a store that imported goods from Europe and East India. As legend has it, the young couple struggled for quite sometime and Jonathan told his wife that he would sell his soul to the devil in order for them to have the wealth that he wanted. The neighbors reported seeing a stranger pay a visit to the couple at the first of every month. The couple was suddenly rich and the rumor was that the devil would fill Jonathan’s boots with gold coins each month. He was never satisfied with what he had, so he tried to trick the devil. He bought bigger boots and still wasn’t satisfied with how much money he was acquiring. So, then he drilled a hole in the floor to have an endless supply of money. Supposedly, the devil caught on after the second month and burned the house down. Jonathan rebuilt a house on the same spot and it is still standing today.

There have been rumors of possible instances that someone has sold their soul to the devil. Musicians and writers, alike, are often accused of making a pact with the devil in order to become successful. There are some well known instances out there that indicate that someone has made a pact with the devil.
